Lauren Dukoff

Lauren Dukoff takes pictures of musicians, actors, and other super-cool people. She is good friends with musician Devendra Banhart and he is the subject of many of her photos. Other photos are of Kim Gordon, Beck, Zooey Deschanel, and Olivia Wilde. Her work can be seen in Elle, Spin, and Nylon Magazines and tons of other publications. Lauren's photos are hippy-esque and full of beautiful people in funky clothing in beautiful backgrounds. She also has a new book called “Family” that I am going to buy!!

Michelle Scott

Michelle Scott is another artist I got to come to my high school for Focus on the Arts. Scott makes the most gorgeous mixed media artwork. She collages, draws, and paints fantastic colors and beautiful images of people often from diverse cultures and backgrounds. After traveling all over the world during her college years, Michelle now uses the memories and faces of people from her adventures in her art work. Michelle's artwork evokes so many emotions and it is incredibly interesting to look at her large scale artwork. Michelle is a young, sweet, and extremely talented artist.

Carey Primeau

Carey Primeau takes photographs of demolished, abandoned, and endangered buildings. He has beautiful photos of schools, hospitals, churches, theaters, and industrial locations. I normally cringe at the thought of industrial plants, but Carey's photographs make even the abandoned plants look absolutely gorgeous. His goal his to "attempt to show the beauty of these spaces and to encourage their continual existence in our environments." I would say Carey absolutely achieves this goal! I was able to meet Carey and see his artwork in person when he came to my high school for Focus on the Arts. His work is stunning in person and he is very young, hip, chill, and an overall nice guy.

Bob Masse

When you think of psychedelic concert posters from the 19060’s you have to think of Bob Masse! Inspired by the art nouveau movement Masse helped pioneer the psychedelic art genre! In the 60’s he spent time in San Francisco and LA where the art and music scene inspire his own work. He has created posters and CD covers for bands such as The Doors, Jefferson Airplane, Cream, the Grateful Dead and much more. He has continued through the decades and has done contemporary artists like Tori Amos, the Smashing Pumpkins, Tool, and Moe. I love his bold graphics, colorful colors, and awesome lettering!

Jen Stark

Jen Stark’s art is truly original! I have never seen anything like it! Stark works mainly with paper and makes sculptures that look like blooming flowers, puddles of water, and layers of the earth’s crust. She says she’s inspired by “fractals, wormholes, an dead bodies”.When I look at her paper sculptures the word I think of is “bliss”, they just make you so happy! Her drawings and animations are quite cool tool. To make her sculptures, Stark sketches her designs and then uses an X-acto knife-no computer modeling to help her at all! Wow!

Sandra Backlund

Sandra Backlund’s collections are inspired by the human body. She is “really fascinated by all the ways in which you can highlight, distort, and transform the natural silhouette of the body with clothes and accessories”. Backlund’s collections are all extremely sculptural, well styled, and very avant-garde. The photographs and stylings of each outfit are amazing too. I normally hate knitwear, but Backlund’s creations are just spectacular. And check out those clothespin dresses!
