Esteban Schimpf

Esteban Schimpf is an abstract multi-media artist from Bogotá Colombia. Now he lives and works in LA. Schimpf's "work explores the relationship between authority and form". Schimpf creates mixed-media pieces, paints, and takes photos. His mixed media works are made of acrylics, oils, packaging styrofoam, adhesive tape, enamel, and paper-mache. Schimpf takes photos of pretty cool people against patterned backgrounds and his paintings and mixed media pieces have great texture and colors!

Michael Elins

Michael Elins is a very talented photographer and computer illustrator. Elins went to my high school and then went on to art school where he studied illustration. As the computer age came, Elins began to mix his drawing skills with technology. He mixed photos with drawings, and sliced drawn heads onto real people's bodies. Now he is mostly into photography. Elins' work can be seen everywhere-on Rolling Stone covers, Newsweek covers, TIMES covers, album covers, movie posters, Vanity Fair pages, and SO much more. He has satirized political figures, made fun of celebrities, done fashion magazine spreads, ad campaigns, and so much more. I got to see Elins talk about his work and background at Focus on the Arts this year. If you check out his websites below, you will recognize so many of his photos and see his incredibly wide-ranging and talented work!

Focus on the Arts 2009

Every other year at my school we have an amazing 3 day, 3 night event called Focus on the Arts. During the nights we have Opening Night, Art Night, and Dance Night. During the 3 days students get to sign up for a total of 18 workshops, performances, demonstrations, or lectures by amazing professional artists. These artists consist of visual artists, actors, musicians, dancers, writers, architects, film makers, journalists, reporters, and much more! Some people who have come over the years are Oprah Winfrey, Anthony Rapp (Mark from Rent), Gary Sinise, the Chicago Jersey Boys, the Joffrey Ballet, and so many more locally, nationally, and internationally known artists. Here are some of the good pictures I got. A lot of them are from Art Night... I actually planned the whole night and got tons of the artists!
