Laura McCabe

Laura McCabe is an amazing artist. Her beading is inspired by Native American, African Zulu, and Victorian bead-weaving techniques and jewelry. Her beading is extremely labor intensive- some necklaces take 400+ hours! The eyeballs used in the necklaces are real glass eyes used in taxidermy animals and for people who lost their real eye. Creepy but cool! Laura came to Focus on the Arts at my school this year and taught a super fun and interesting workshop.

Miss KK

Miss KK makes awesome feather necklaces. They are long, big, full of beads, shiny, and so much fun! These necklaces are super unique and would be so fun to wear. Miss KK also makes some fashion and costume pieces.

Focus on the Arts 2009

Every other year at my school we have an amazing 3 day, 3 night event called Focus on the Arts. During the nights we have Opening Night, Art Night, and Dance Night. During the 3 days students get to sign up for a total of 18 workshops, performances, demonstrations, or lectures by amazing professional artists. These artists consist of visual artists, actors, musicians, dancers, writers, architects, film makers, journalists, reporters, and much more! Some people who have come over the years are Oprah Winfrey, Anthony Rapp (Mark from Rent), Gary Sinise, the Chicago Jersey Boys, the Joffrey Ballet, and so many more locally, nationally, and internationally known artists. Here are some of the good pictures I got. A lot of them are from Art Night... I actually planned the whole night and got tons of the artists!

Digby and Iona is a sick jewelry line! Their collections have names like “Wanderer in a Sea of Fog”, “Fight or Flight”, and “Hunter and Hunted”. Most of their jewelry is animal, nautical, and overall rustic themed. Items depicted on their rings, necklaces, and earrings are octopuses, birds, moustaches, knifes, compasses, bullets, lions, spyglasses, deer, and so much more. All of their jewelry is vintage-y, tough-looking, and super unique.
